This site supports Internet Technology and Webmaster courses offered through Illinois Institute of Technology’s Center for Professional Development. The full program consists of two courses; each course consists of 15 sessions covering 30-35 topics plus two examinations. This program is offered as a certificate course granting Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in our Professional Learning Program as IT 461/462 Internet Technology/Webmaster, and as part of our Information Technology & Management (ITM) Degree Programs as ITM 461 Internet Technologies & Web Design & ITM 462 Web Application Development for undergraduates and as ITM 461 Internet Technologies & Web Design & ITM 562 Web Application Development for graduate students.
To take this program you should have a working knowledge of using a personal computer with a graphical user interface (Windows, Macintosh, XWindows, etc.) and at least previous exposure to computer programming. All certificate applicants will be interviewed by a program manager to ensure their level of knowledge and experience is suitable for the course; ITM students should have completed or be enrolled in ITM 311 or have equivalent programming experience before taking ITM 462/ITM 562. While the program is designed for anyone, those who might find it to be particularly useful include design professionals (Web site design), information technology professionals (Web site and server administration), and business and management professionals (electronic commerce and Web project management). The courses address Internet Technologies that must be mastered by a Web professional; Web page authoring using both XHTML and WYSIWYG editing programs; Web site design and management; and fundamental CGI programming for Web sites using Perl, PHP and MySQL. For more on what is included in the courses, please see the syllabus for each course from our menu through our course page. These are intensive, hands-on courses that emphasize practical application of the material taught.
The course was accredited at the Technical Foundation level through the Association of Internet Professionals Certification Accreditation Council and should also provide preparation for the CompTIA i-Net+ exam. To learn more about our accreditation, please visit our accreditation page.
Faculty members for the program come from both academia and industry, but all are Web professionals with strong experience in the field. For more information on our faculty, please see our faculty page.
