Using the Windows Web Publishing Wizard
A really attractive and simple way to get Webpages onto the server is through the use of the Windows Web Publishing Wizard. The Web Publishing Wizard assumes that your entire Web site is contained in a directory on your hard drive; it also requires that you know the address of your Web server. Since we will be sending your pages via FTP, your server address must be set up as an ftp statement, which will be something like ftp://username@itwebmaster.iit.edu/www/. To launch the Web Publishing Wizard, from the start menu select
The first step is to select your directory to publish.
Then select New from the next screen to name the Web server; you will want to use whatever you have named your local directory containing the site.
Then click the Advanced button on the Name the Web Server screen; this will allow you to choose the method through which your files will be uploaded.
When the next screen appears, click the drop-down menu and select FTP.
Finally, enter the FTP address of your web page location on the server (phrased as a URL), and the local directory to publish.
It will ask you for a username and password; enter your username and password for your server. Finally click finish; all of the files in the directory you have specified will be published to the server.
It's really very cool...
