These pages were originally developed in a combination of bare html (using Windows Wordpad) and AOLPress and are now maintained and upgraded in Dreamweaver 8. Design was based on templates developed by Valerie Scarlata for IIT's Information Technology & Management Degree Programs Web site; some templates were redesigned for CSS layout by Ray Trygstad. The site makes extensive use of Virtual Includes to simplify maintenance of the code and the site; examples of the material in the includes can be seen by comparing and contrasting the template code with the source code of the actual template as delivered by the server. The site employs a cascading style sheet, itm.css, to apply styles across the site.
Clarity and ease of use are the goals of the site. Usefulness of the material when printed is also considered very important; to meet this goal every reference link is linked through the URL. The site is also designed to work effectively in both Internet Explorer and Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox; it looks fine in Opera and on WebTV although some Javascript functions may not work; some pages laid out with CSS rather than tables may not work on Safari; and Amaya seems to center many items that are not actually centered but the site is still functional.
The site is hosted on a white box PC running RedHat Linux 8; the server version is Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_ssl/2.8.12 OpenSSL/0.9.6b DAV/1.0.3 PHP/4.1.2.
The site is in a state of transition between the new format and the old one; it may take a while to get all pages converted over and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
